If you have painted an exterior house before you know it takes time & patience. I as a female have rental property & do all my painting myself & have for 25 years.
If its a new house, primer goes on first, painted just like painting is done. after recommended time between primers & painting, start at highest point & will involved ladders & moving the ladder when your arms can paint as far as you can reach. Keep a rag in your pocket, wear gloves, keep your brush tapped on side of pail/plastic container your paint is in,it prevents you wasting paint & it dripping all over you. Only dip the brush into 1/2 of bristles.Once you brush has the perfect amount loaded into it, it’ll be easy….You’ll get the hang of it pretty quick…Make sure the ladder is safe without wobbling.
Also if you are handed a bucket to start with, you’ll need a paddle/stick to stir it well from top to bottom, around & around until blended & smooth.I keep an extra lite weight bucket tied on my ladder at top for easy reach (I tie it on with a plastic grocery bag)with an extra brush, & an extra plastic grocery bag in the extra lite wt pail to wrap my brush up in to keep from drying out while I move my ladder.
If your repainting a house, you may have to scrape old paint that’s peeling & at times may have to use a piece of sand paper.
It is helpful if you go to a dollar store & get a tool called 3-in-one tool,($2-$3.00) has a rubber handle & the tool has a sharp point on one end & flat razor like edge to scrape the old paint off.I keep 2 or 3 of these handy when painting.
Painting to me is like a hobby or art-you gotta love it or hate it, but is a task that allows you to work alone & is good theraphy for the mind to me. When you have to stop painting to go to lunch or bathroom, use one of these same little grocery bags to wrap the wet paint brush in & it’ll not dry out or you have to clean the brush & start again. It is very important you wash your brushes each night when painting is done for the day & I mean really wash with mild detergent & water or a paint removal/cleaner if it’s an oil based paint.(yuck). I only use & buy purdy brushes & have every size plus extras. They are expensive but holds lots of paint & is easy to apply.
Good Luck,be calm it’ll be beautiful & you’ll get the credit.
