I took this picture of my kids a few weeks ago at the Plaza here in Kansas City.

Then I had the sweetest blog follower offer to edit the picture for me! She sent me these 2 versions:

(a watercolor effect)

(a black and white with my kids in color)

I just loved the black and white with my kids in color.

So, I ordered it my first canvas from Winkflash. They are 40% off right now.

I am love, loving it.

Thank you sweet blog follower and Winkflash.

(please note: I was in no way compensated from Winkflash for this recommendation.)

Dresser drama….what do you mean it’s the wrong color?

Posted: June 22, 2010 – 3:33 am

I have self-induced “dresser drama”….

A college girl who babysits for me asked me to paint this old dresser for her:

I heard her say TEAL…..

And yet…..like a moth to a flame…

my hand reached for turquoise.

So, I was going to show you this gorgeous turquoise and black dresser today.

But now you will have to tune in later…..when the turquoise has been changed to teal.

Have you ever banged your head against a beautiful piece of furniture that you just painted???????

Yeah, me neither. But I wonder if it would make me feel better.

Missing my boy and a random study on the color orange

Posted: June 20, 2010 – 7:10 am

My oldest son left for church camp this week. It’s his 2nd year of going. And while I am worrying about him less this year…. I still miss him terribly.

We got a couple of cute pictures of us sending him off from church.

When I was looking at the pictures (doing the typical “my-tan-looks-good-but-why-isn’t-my-belly-flat?” kind of critical thinking that only us women do to ourselves)… I realized something….

… if you read my blog last year at this time… I did a post on his first church camp…. and I was wearing orange then also!!!!

(picture from camp LAST year)

I only have 2 orange shirts. What are the odds?

I wore one of them to the 4th of July party on our block last year also. Hmmmm… interesting.

(that is finger nail polish, not blood on Ava’s forehead)
(ps… I love headbands)

So I decided to google “what does it mean to wear the color orange?”….looking for a deep, meaningful explanation.

Here are some things I found all at different sites and my thoughts in … what else? Orange.

  • “Orange is to red as Betty is to Veronica, often the color that gets the least attention, overshadowed by the brilliance of its peers, red and yellow. Associated with Thanksgiving, fall, spice and warmth, orange is the only color named after an object. It is believed that lovers of orange are social creatures who get along with almost everyone. Orange fans hate being alone and many believe that wearing something orange, or sitting in an orange room or on an orange couch will cheer you up if you’re feeling grumpy.” (so was I feeling grumpy about sending him away??)
  • “Orange urges you to get out into the world and create something grand! Orange is a very high energy color. Its creativity juices are extremely intoxicating and sweet tasting. Wearing orange is fun and can make you feel quite playful. Artists love dabbling with orange hues (Hmmm… that could be me). Orange screams with sexual energy too, not surprising since orange is associated with the sacral chakra (uh….no idea what ‘sacral chakra‘ is and trust me….I am at church….I was not trying to “scream with sexual energy”). Because of its highly-charged intensity some people cannot comfortably wear this color. Adorning yourself with an orange accent piece can add a hint of playfulness. Beware, if you need to complete a mundane project avoid wearing orange as it might interfere with the stick-to-it-ness required to stay on task” (interesting….).
  • “Wearing orange during times of stress, or shock can help to balance your emotions. It can bring about the willingness to embrace new ideas with enjoyment and a sense of exploration and creative play.” (balancing my emotions….wanting him to go/wanting him to stay…. maybe??)
  • “Color can stimulate us in many ways. Psychologically, the colors red and yellow (orange if you put them together) stimulate the part of the brain that relates to emotions, a sense of urgency, and in relation, hunger.” (was I hungry? was I trying to rush him off to camp quickly?)

****sigh*****

The orange shirt saga is probably just random. I just thought it was interesting. I’m still thinking about my baby. Trying to be the brave mama…. but wanting my little guy home.
