My fireplace faux

(missing some of the mantel accessories)

Sweet Beth at The Stories of A to Z used to have “mantel parties”. I was all ready to post my fireplace mantel one day …when she decided to have the mantel parties less often. I was thrilled to see she is having one today, so I am linking up Beth!!!!!! Thank you!

This was our fireplace when we bought our home….

I kept it this way for about a year (we did get carpet) until

i.couldnt.stand.it.another.day…..

I decided I wanted it black. “Cuz’ every room needs a touch of black”…..

I think it lasted 2 years….wish I had a full picture of it.

And this is our fireplace today.

And this is my baby girl chillin’ in front of it…. And she is wayyyyyy prettier than my fireplace.

Thanks for looking!

How much does it cost to re-plaster the ceilings + re-paint an entire house?

Posted: March 31, 2010 – 6:51 pm

I own a top floor flat in my building and it has had some ugly water leakage issues. The terrace is now mended to prevent any more water leakage. But it has already taken its toll on the ceilings.

Now, I want to re-plaster the ceilings and re-paint the entire house. How much can this cost?
The built up area of my house is around 900 sq ft.

I have received quotations of 70K and 50K Rs.

If your handy ,get some buddies to help put up New Dry Wall
Before you start mark the ceiling where you can nail etc……

If the room is empty you and a couple gays can save you a lot
of Money ………OK………….. Mel ………………………………….

Confession: I don’t decorate for Easter

Posted: March 30, 2010 – 8:06 pm

I may be the only blogger out here who doesn’t decorate for Easter. I love Easter. But there is such a fine line between cheesy and classy Easter decor.

I did try to gold leaf a bunny and an egg.

They are still cheesy.

And…the last time I tried to decorate in Easter fashion…. this is what I got.

Reread this post from last year. You will feel like a decorating genius. You can thank me later for boosting your self esteem.

Clearly I haven’t recovered from the incident. I am still mad at that wreath.

PS My favourite line is, “So what? – you’ve got a silly hat on…” Ah, house parties.

Lyrics (as printed in album sleeve notes):

Got to get on it

Bodies disengage, our mouths are fleshing over
As hiss and echo gain, irises retreat into ovals of white

The urge to feel your face, in blood,
rushing to paint my handprint
And Frisbee one by one, your vinyl on laminate
I’m desperate for some kind of contact

First train home, I’ve got to get on it
Got to catch, to catch, to catch, catch, catch the…

First train home

Temporal dead zone where clocks are barely breathing
Yet no one cares to notice for all their yamming on,
I clam up to hold it together

I want to Play-Do waveforms in the hideaway
I want to get on with getting on with things
I want to run in fields, paint the kitchen, and love someone
And I can’t do any of that here, can I?

[Chorus]

So what, you’ve had one too many
So what, I’m not that much fun to be with
So what, you’ve got a silly hat on
So what, I didn’t want to come here anyway

What matters to you, it doesn’t matter, matter to me
What matters to me, doesn’t matter, matter to you
What matters to you, doesn’t matter, matter to them
What matters to them, doesn’t change anything

Got to get out now
